Key Milestones

We began operations in 1997 in the Air Cargo business. With decades of experience in the aviation industry and thousands of flights flown, we became the first privately owned airline to be designated by the Government of Sri Lanka to operate scheduled international passenger air service out of Sri Lanka.

  • Launched flights to Kuala Lumpur. Introduced Business Class.
  • Commenced Self-Ground Handling operations at Bandaranaike International Airport.
  • Obtained Approved Training Organisation Licencse
  • Launched flights to Dhaka.
  • Launched our Sky View Magazine.
  • Introduced in-flight catering services. Launched flights to Chennai.
  • Launched scheduled international passenger air transport services.
  • Induction of A320 aircraft into the fleet of FitsAir.
  • Commenced a Flight Training Academy at Ratmalana Airport, Colombo with the approval of the Civil Aviation Authority of Sri Lanka (CAASL).
  • Appointed as the authorized service contractor for United Parcel Service (UPS) in Sri Lanka.
  • Leased a turboprop aircraft to an operator in Indonesia for their network support.
  • Established a based operation in Seletar, Singapore to support freight movement from Batam Industrial zone, Indonesia.
  • The first private airline to be recognized for operating the greatest number of cargo flights in a month at Dubai International Airport.
  • Contracted by DHL for a based operation out of Bahrain to serve its regional network.
  • Contracted by FedEx to operate linehaul service on its behalf to multiple destinations in the Middle East and Central Asia.
  • Established a cabin crew training academy.
  • Our freighter operations had further expanded to include destinations such as Dhaka and Bangkok. Foreseeing opportunities to reach further away destinations, a wide bodied jet aircraft with pay load capacity of 45 tonnes was added to the fleet, thereby expanding our network into destinations in Central and Middle East such as Kabul, Bagram and Baghdad.
  • Obtained approval from the CAASL to conduct self ground handling of FitsAir’s own fleet.
    Diversified into scheduled domestic passenger air transport services in Sri Lanka.
  • Commenced scheduled cargo flights from Sri Lanka to the Maldives.
