FITS Aviation is a pioneer in Sri Lankan Aviation, with being the first privately operated Sri Lankan Airline to be licensed for international cargo operations by the Sri Lankan Civil Aviation Authority (CAA). Additionally, FITS Aviation is a BOI-approved entity that operates its own aircraft with a fleet of ATR72 aircraft.
FitsAir commenced operations in 1997 with a leased cargo aircraft of 10 tonne capacity flying from Sri Lanka to the Maldives Islands.
The same year, the company purchased its own 15 tonne Cargo aircraft and in the year 2000 added another aircraft of similar capacity to its fleet, bringing the fleet to 3 aircraft within a year of operation.
With the increase of its fleet, FitsAir expanded its cargo operations to neighboring India and across to Pakistan and the United Arab Emirates
In a milestone achievement FitsAir was granted approval by the Civil Aviation Authority to conduct its own ground handling in 2002, being the first private airline to do so.
